Your refrigerator may show EC or CE. They are the same fault written two ways. One Bertazzoni manual for its 24 inch built-in bottom-mount refrigerator prints EC, and two others print CE, and all three describe it as a communication fault between the main board and the display panel.
Which board is which
| Part | Role | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Display panel | Shows temperatures and fault codes | (location not stated in the manual) |
| Main board | Runs the refrigerator | In the compressor compartment, per the manual’s note |
The code means these two have lost their connection, or one of them is not answering. The manual does not say which, and gives no checks.
Can I keep using it?
Bertazzoni’s wording for its whole Fault Display & Alarm function is that the appliance still cools, but a professional service engineer should be called to check it. So the answer is yes for day-to-day use, and a thermometer in each compartment will tell you how cold things really are.
What to do
- Write down the code as shown, EC or CE.
- Avoid cutting power over and over to try to clear it. No reset is listed.
- Book a service engineer.
Why both spellings exist
One of the 24 inch manuals prints the code as EC and the other two print it as CE. The fault display function is described the same way in all three. If your display shows the letters in either order, you are looking at the same entry on this page.
Similar codes
- E6: display board to main board communication on the 36 inch models
- 2E: freezer fan or motor, shown in the same list

Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so EC / CE may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
