Look at your refrigerator’s width before reading further. F4 has two meanings, and they follow the model.
36 inch refrigerator with ice maker
The REF36FDFZXNT manual puts F4 in its ice maker group: “The ice maker sensor has failed.” On that model the codes show in the temperature display zone while the panel is locked, and if several faults exist, the codes cycle with a chime. Press any button to silence it. The manual does not list a cause or an owner step for F4.
24 inch built-in bottom-mount
The REF24BMBPNB, REF24BMFIXNV / RBM24F4FXNV and REF24BMBIPNV manuals list F4 as the freezer compartment sensor. This is a different part from the ice maker sensor: it reports the temperature inside the freezer. According to these manuals the appliance still cools, but a professional service engineer should be called to check it.
How to tell which applies to you
- If your refrigerator has a built-in ice maker and a 36 inch width, use the first meaning.
- If it is a 24 inch bottom-mount without those ice maker codes in its manual, use the second.
- If you are unsure, the model on the nameplate settles it, and we can check it for you.
Either way
Neither source gives a reset. Do not disassemble the ice maker or the freezer liner to reach a sensor, and note any other codes cycling alongside F4.

Call (415) 692-0756. Tell us the width of the refrigerator and read the model number from the nameplate.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so F4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
