The 90-minute rule
When a Bertazzoni dishwasher heats its water, it expects to reach the programmed temperature in a set time. According to the DW24PR and DW18PR manuals, if the temperature cannot reach the defined value after 90 minutes, the dishwasher warns with E3. Some listings write it as E03.
What the manual tells service to check
- The heater. This is the element that warms the wash water.
- The thermistor. A temperature sensor whose resistance changes with heat, which lets the board read the water temperature.
- The PCB. The control board that decides when to heat and reads the sensor.
These three lines appear in the manual in this order and without detail. That is all that the source says about E3.
A note about factory mode
In the manual’s error table, a note reading “only appeared in the factory mode” sits next to this entry. The layout of the page makes it unclear whether it belongs to E3 or to the entry before it, so this page does not rely on it. If E3 shows up during an ordinary cycle in your kitchen, treat it as real.
What you can do
No owner steps are listed. Cancelling the cycle and unplugging the machine before anyone looks at it is sensible; hot water and a powered heater are not things to poke at. Note whether the dishes were hot at the end, as that is helpful information.
Other codes with sensors or heat
- E6: the thermal sensor reading as an open circuit
- E7: the same sensor reading as a short circuit
- F8: a heater error on the F-code models
Which models
The entry is printed in the Bertazzoni DW24PR and DW18PR manuals. The DW24XV manual lists other codes in its table and does not include E3.

Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E3 / E03 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
