What you will notice
Picture it this way. A pot of soup bubbles over, you grab a damp sponge, wipe the glass, and a moment later the touch keys stop responding or the display shows E05. Some owners say the panel then beeps by itself or ignores light taps. Because the code arrives right after moisture reached the control area, the first suspicion is the panel surface and its edge seal, not the heating zones. The keys read through the glass from a sensor layer beneath, which is why moisture at the edge can disturb them.
Checks you can do yourself
- Leave the cooktop switched off at the breaker for about an hour so surface moisture can dry before you try again.
- Dry the glass and the panel with a clean microfiber cloth, working away from the controls and not toward them.
- Avoid spray cleaners near the panel, since the mist can travel under the edge of the glass.
Where the work starts inside the cooktop
Liquid that reaches the control area can sit between the glass and the panel, along the seal at the edge, or in the connector under the glass. So the touch sensor layer, its ribbon or connector, and the control board nearest the panel are looked at first, ahead of any heating part.
What the code does and does not tell us
We do not claim that E05 always means a touch panel fault, since Bertazzoni cooktops of different generations assign their codes differently. The timing after a spill is evidence, though, and combined with the model number it often points to the panel and its connection first. A code that clears once the surface dries is a different case from one that stays, and noting which happened is useful.
Coastal fog and kitchen steam can add moisture too, so note whether the problem eases once the room warms and dries out.
If the panel was wet when the code appeared, resist the urge to try several times. Each press on a damp panel is a fresh chance for a false touch, and a cooktop that reads a false key can start a zone you did not intend. Keep pans and towels away from the glass until the display is quiet and dry.
When to book a visit
If E05 stays after the surface has dried, or if keys respond on their own, a technician needs to inspect for moisture or residue under the glass. That means lifting the cooktop, which exposes live connections and should not be an owner job. Corroded contacts found early can often be cleaned and dried; left alone, they spread.
Frequently asked questions
It can be, if liquid creeps toward the edge of the glass. Wiping slowly from the controls outward lowers the chance.
We do not advise it. Heat can stress the glass and push moisture further in. Time and a dry cloth are safer.
No. Repeated pressing on a wet panel can register ghost touches. Wait until it is dry, then test once. A single test press on dry glass shows whether the code returns.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E05 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
