E11 in daily use
With a gas-equipped Bertazzoni cooktop the story is easy to picture. You press and turn the knob, the spark clicks away at a steady rate, and the burner stays dark. After a few seconds the clicking stops and E11 takes over the display. Other burners may light without trouble. Which burner, and whether the clicking sounds normal or hurried, are the details we ask about first.
Fog and damp mornings can dampen a spark electrode near the coast, so a burner that lights after the kitchen warms is a clue we want to hear about.
A boil-over just before the problem began is a typical trigger, since liquid in the burner base can wet the electrode. Wait for the cooktop to cool and dry fully before further attempts, and do not hold the knob for long periods trying to force a flame, because unburned gas collecting under a pan is a risk. Tell us how long you tried and whether you smelled gas.
Checks that are safe for an owner
- Make sure the burner cap and ring sit flat and seated, then try once more, with no pan on the grate.
- Check that nothing sticky or burnt is bridging the spark electrode tip, such as dried sauce, and remove it only after the burner is cold and by gentle wiping with a barely damp cloth.
- Try another burner to learn whether the problem is limited to one position.
Meaning of the code
E11 does not have a single confirmed meaning across Bertazzoni cooktops. Gas, induction and mixed models use different code tables, and generations differ even within one type. The model number tells us which table applies, and the click-without-flame behavior tells us which stage of lighting to examine. A burner that clicks without lighting is a different situation from one that does not click at all, which would point toward the spark circuit.
Inside checks start with
For a burner that sparks but does not light, the first assemblies are the spark electrode and its ceramic body at the burner, the spark module that feeds it, and the path the gas takes through the knob valve. We also look at the cap and base seating, because a cap that sits slightly crooked can shift flame away from the electrode. The spark module sends the pulse, the electrode delivers it, and the gas has to arrive at the same moment, so each link is tested separately.
Technician or not
If you smell gas at any point, leave the kitchen, do not operate switches, and call your gas utility from outside. Beyond that, a burner that clicks but does not light is a technician job, because the valve and fuel line are involved. We do not adjust gas settings or open gas connections from instructions on a page, and the diagnosis stays with a trained person on site.
Frequently asked questions
Short attempts are fine. Do not keep trying for long; if you ever smell gas, leave and call the gas utility.
Each burner has its own electrode and valve, so a local problem can leave the rest working. A shared spark module is a different story. When every burner clicks without lighting, attention moves to what they share.
A gentle wipe on a cool cooktop is fine. Do not poke it with metal or pry at it.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E11 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
