What you will notice
Island kitchens put the dishwasher close to the cooktop, sometimes on the same side. When the dishwasher finishes and its vent opens, hot moist air drifts over the glass. A slider or key then registers touches that were never made, so a zone changes level or switches on. Steam carries water droplets that settle on the glass, and a thin film across the sensor area can be read as a touch. E37 follows. The link with the dishwasher is clear once you watch for it.
Checks you can do yourself
- Watch the cooktop during the dishwasher’s final minutes to see whether the jumping coincides with venting.
- Run the dishwasher while the cooktop is off at its breaker, then test the cooktop afterward.
- Dry the glass and panel with a clean cloth after each dishwasher cycle.
Where the work starts inside the cooktop
The sensor layer on the glass is first, with its edge seal and the connection beneath. Moisture in the cabinet beneath the cooktop, shared with the dishwasher, is another point, and so are the connectors that sit in that damp space. Connectors in that space can hold moisture long after the film on the glass has dried.
What the code does and does not tell us
E37 has no single confirmed definition across Bertazzoni cooktops, and models differ. The vapor connection is the evidence we have, and the model number tells us how a given control generation reports false touches.
A dishwasher that vents steam upward, with no baffle, is the usual cause. Some owners find that opening the dishwasher door slowly at the end of the cycle helps.
If a zone starts without you, turn it off at the key and, if it will not respond, switch off at the breaker immediately. Do not leave pots on a cooktop during a suspect dishwasher cycle, so that an unintended zone has nothing to heat. Photographing the display at the moment a setting jumps makes the story easy to follow. If you can, have someone film while the dishwasher vents, with the cooktop in view, so that the technician can see the link for themselves.
When to book a visit
A panel that changes settings on its own is a safety matter, since a zone could heat unexpectedly. Switch the cooktop off at the breaker when you are not cooking, and book a visit. A technician inspects the panel and the connections under the glass, which is live-voltage work.
Frequently asked questions
A film of moisture on the panel can create false touches. It is a known effect.
Unintended heating is the risk, so keep the area clear and switch off at the breaker when idle. Even without a pan the glass can warm, so treat each event as real.
That is a bigger decision. First try the habits above and report what you notice.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E37 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
