How E22 tends to show up
Owners tend to say it plainly, and the rear right one is the problem. It may fail at once or only on certain settings, and swapping the pan to another zone proves the pan is fine. Because the other zones carry on without any complaint, the cooktop is still useful for most meals, and many people simply stop using the faulty position until the visit. A zone that fails while the others run fine tells us the problem is local to that position rather than cooktop-wide.
Heavy daily use of the same burner position, say for a morning kettle or a large stockpot, concentrates wear. Mentioning how the zone is used tells us a lot. Wear can show up as a zone that works at one setting and fails at another.
While you wait, avoid the faulty zone altogether. Moving the pan to another zone is a perfectly good workaround and has no downside for the cooktop. If a smell or a visible mark appears on the glass over the failed zone, stop using the whole cooktop and let us know.
Reading the code
We do not claim a confirmed meaning for E22 that holds for all Bertazzoni cooktops, since generations use different tables. A code that stays with one position is more informative than its characters, because it limits the suspects to what that zone owns.
First assemblies in line
Parts that belong to the one zone are examined first: its coil or element, the wiring from it to the board, the connector at both ends and the sensor beside it. Only if those pass does the work spread to the board section that drives it.
Outside checks
- Run the same pan on another zone and a different pan on the troubled one, to confirm the zone follows the position.
- Look at the glass over the zone for hairline cracks or a faded patch.
- Make a note of which settings fail, since low and high behave differently.
Why a technician is needed
A single-zone fault usually needs a part under the glass, which means disconnecting and lifting the cooktop. That job involves line voltage and is for a technician. The finding is typically quick because a healthy zone is available for comparison, and the estimate lists just the part that the readings support. Because the working zones serve as a reference, the technician can compare readings between the faulty zone and a healthy one.
Frequently asked questions
If they behave normally and there is no smell, damage or tripping, using them is generally acceptable until the visit.
Not necessarily. It suggests the fault sits near that zone, but the board section serving it is also tested.
By position, such as rear right as viewed from the front. Say it that way.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E22 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
