E28 on the display
After a boil-over the burner base can hold liquid for hours. The spark system then clicks without catching, or clicks continuously on its own when the electrode is wet. Some owners report that the clicking continues even with the knob off. That is irritating, and it is also the sign of a connection that is wet, so we want to hear about it promptly. The electrode is the small metal tip that carries the spark, and liquid on or around it gives the spark an easier path than the one toward the burner.
Why the exact model matters
E28 does not have a single confirmed definition on every Bertazzoni cooktop, and the gas and induction tables differ by generation. We read the code together with the clicking and the boil-over, and the model number confirms which pairing is plausible. A gas burner and an induction zone use entirely different parts, so the same code number would not describe the same fault on both.
Assemblies looked at first
The first look goes to the burner base and electrode for liquid or residue, the connector and the cable that feeds the electrode, and the spark module that creates the pulses. Moisture can also reach the module if it is mounted below the burner area.
Safe checks from the outside
- Turn the knobs off, wait for the cooktop to cool, and remove the cap and head to let the base air dry.
- Wipe visible liquid from the top of the burner base with a soft cloth, taking care not to push it into openings.
- Leave the cooktop alone for several hours, then test one burner for a short try.
When it becomes a technician job
Continuous clicking with the knobs off should be treated carefully. If it persists, switch the cooktop off at the breaker to stop the sparking, and book a visit. If you ever smell gas, leave the kitchen and call the gas utility. A technician checks the electrode, cable and module with the right tools.
A detail worth knowing
Coastal air and kitchen steam can keep a base damp longer than inland. A fan nearby and an open window help a base dry out.
Do not use a metal tool to dig liquid out of the burner base, as you may damage the electrode or push the wet residue further in. A twist of paper towel on a cold, dry base is a gentler way to absorb moisture. Keep the knobs off during all of this.
Frequently asked questions
Moisture can create a path for the spark, so the module keeps trying. Drying often stops it.
Sparks near gas are a reason for caution. Switch off at the breaker if clicking persists, and leave if you smell gas.
A few hours to a day for a thorough dry. If it continues, book a visit.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E28 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
