The cycle that never ends
You start a normal wash, go off for the evening, and come back two hours later to find it still going. The display says E29, the tub is lukewarm and the dishes still have grease. A cycle that stretches far beyond normal is often the machine waiting for heat that is not arriving. Because the code itself is unconfirmed, the stretched cycle is the observation that carries weight.
What we do and do not know
No single definition of E29 is confirmed across Bertazzoni dishwashers. The long cycle and cool tub are what point toward the heating stage, not the code itself. A code that returns on every long cycle tells us more than one that appeared once and never came back.
Compare against your normal
- Time a normal wash on another day and note how long it takes.
- Check how hot the tub is right after a cycle ends.
- Look at whether grease and cheese residue is coming off the plates.
- See if dishes feel cold rather than just wet.
Outside checks
Find out how hot your kitchen tap gets and how long it takes to arrive. Water heaters set low, or a long run of pipe, make a dishwasher work harder. Run the tap before starting the cycle. Make sure the supply valve is fully open, since a partly closed valve slows fill and can stretch time.
That is all that is safe to do. Heating parts are wired directly to the household supply, and the area around them is wet. Do not open the lower panel to look.
What a technician checks
In this situation the technician looks at the heating element, the temperature sensor that reports the water temperature, the high-limit device that cuts power if things overheat, and the control output that switches the heat. The sensor tells the control how warm the water is, so a sensor that reads low can keep the cycle extending even when the element works. Each is measured against the figures for the model. It might be one failed part, but guessing is how repairs get repeated.
Meanwhile
If the cycle will not finish or leaves dishes greasy, wash by hand or run a short rinse and wait. If you smell burning, stop and switch off at the breaker.
The visit includes a diagnosis, a written estimate and approval before any parts are replaced. Please give us the full model number and the cycle length you measured.
What helps the visit
Write down the cycle you ran, how long it took, and how hot the kitchen tap gets after a minute. A kitchen thermometer reading is ideal, but a simple description such as hot, warm or barely warm still helps a technician plan the first measurements.
Tell us if the dishwasher shares a circuit with other appliances.
Frequently asked questions
Possibly, which is why you check tap temperature first. A low setting makes the dishwasher work harder.
Not by itself, but stop if there is a smell, steam from the base or a tripped breaker.
Grease needs heat to dissolve, so greasy results are a sign of low water temperature.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E29 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
