Plumbing under the counter
Look under many Bay Area kitchen sinks and you will find more than a drain. There may be a reverse-osmosis cartridge, a carbon filter, a water softener branch, or an instant hot-water unit, all sharing the supply that feeds the dishwasher. When one of these clogs or is serviced badly, the dishwasher gets less water than it expects. The inlet valve opens to let water in, and the machine judges the fill by how long it takes or what its level sensing reports, so a weak supply can look like a fault inside the dishwasher.
The code in context
E30 does not have one confirmed meaning for all Bertazzoni dishwasher models. When it starts after a filter change, the plumbing is the place to look first.
Questions to answer
- When was the last filter or cartridge change, and did the code appear soon after?
- Did the kitchen tap flow weaken at about the same time?
- Is the shut-off valve to the dishwasher fully open, and not partly closed during the filter work?
- Is there any new water treatment equipment under the sink or in the basement?
Things to try
Open the faucet fully and time how long it takes to fill a quart jug. A trickle suggests a restriction upstream. If your filter has a bypass or a service mode, make sure it is set to normal. Run the dishwasher after restoring regular flow and see whether E30 appears.
If anything leaks while you look, close the valves and stop there. Fittings under pressure should be adjusted only by someone who knows them.
Softeners and hard water
Where water is very hard, owners add softeners, and where it is soft, they may not need them. A softener in the middle of its regeneration can briefly reduce flow. If E30 appears at the same time each night, check the softener schedule.
When the supply is fine
With good faucet flow and a fully open valve, a recurring E30 turns the attention to the machine: the inlet valve, the level sensing and the control. Those need to be tested with the dishwasher open and powered, which a technician does. A code that shows once after a filter change is a different situation from one that returns on every cycle.
The visit includes diagnosis, a written estimate and your approval before any replacement. Tell us what is installed under the sink, and when it was last worked on.
Information to bring along
Make a quick list of what is installed under the sink, with dates for any recent filter changes. If you know your water hardness or whether a softener runs, add that too. It is background that can save a return trip and keeps the diagnosis focused on the part that matters.
Frequently asked questions
It can restrict supply, which changes how long the machine takes to fill and may lead to a code.
That is a plumber’s task. Check the flow at the faucet and let a professional bypass it.
Not necessarily. Supply issues are common and easy to rule out.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E30 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
