A timing puzzle
Some codes show up mid-cycle, but E33 has a habit of being noticed at the edges: the second you press Start, or when you pull the door open as the cycle finishes and steam rolls out. That makes it easy to confuse the code with the action. Pinning down which comes first is the whole task. The door latch is the catch and switch that tells the control the door is shut, so a code at the moment of pressing Start is worth separating from one that appears later.
Where E33 stands
Bertazzoni has no universal definition for E33 across its dishwashers that we can state. This is why the timing is more useful here than a part name, and why this page leans on it.
Three scenarios
- The code appears the moment you press Start, before water runs. Think about the door, the latch signal and anything in the way.
- The code appears when you open the door at the end. It may have been logged earlier and only displayed when the door moved.
- The code appears while you are away from the kitchen. You will need a watched test cycle to learn the stage.
Easy checks
Close the door without slamming and listen for the latch. Wipe the lower edge of the door and the tub rim. Check that the control panel is dry, since moisture from steam or a wet cloth can make buttons behave oddly. Then try a short rinse and note the results. A short rinse is useful because it exercises the door signal and the fill stage without a full cycle.
If buttons stick or react when not pressed, mention it, because the problem may be at the panel rather than at the door.
What about the steam
Opening a just-finished cycle releases a gust of hot, humid air. Over many months that moisture reaches the control area and the door. Waiting a few minutes before opening reduces it, and it is gentler on the door switch.
Next step
If E33 reappears on a watched cycle, a technician will check the door signal, the panel connections and the board, each with the machine open and powered. These are not tasks for an owner. The visit includes a diagnosis and a written estimate, and no part is replaced without your approval. Whether the code is a one-off or returns on a watched cycle decides how much testing is needed.
What to bring up when booking
Tell us which of the three scenarios matches your case, and whether the buttons ever react oddly. A short phone video of the door closing and the panel responding is surprisingly useful, because intermittent door and panel issues are hard to catch while someone is standing in the kitchen.
Frequently asked questions
Over time, moisture can reach connectors and buttons. Wait a minute before opening a finished cycle.
Run a watched cycle. If it appears only on opening, mention that at booking.
It may be one of the things tested, but the code is not confirmed to mean that.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E33 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
