One button, one code
A machine may show E30 only when you choose a certain drink: the longest coffee, the strongest setting, the largest cup size. Other drinks might brew without complaint. The code is model-dependent, so the program that triggers it matters more than the number does.
Why programs behave differently
Each program sets its own grind amount, water volume, pressure and temperature. A strong setting uses more beans and holds water back longer. A long coffee uses a lot of water. A machine with a slightly weak pump, a partial scale layer or a grinder near its limit may handle the short drinks and falter on the demanding ones. The pump pushes water through the brew chamber, so the demanding programs are the ones that expose a weak pump or partial scale.
Run a mini test
| Program | What to note |
|---|---|
| Short espresso | Completes or shows the code |
| Standard coffee | Completes or shows the code |
| Long or strong setting | Completes or shows the code |
Do this over one morning with fresh water. Three outcomes on a card give the technician a head start.
Custom settings
Some owners adjust strength, temperature or cup volume to personal taste. A custom value near the machine’s limit, such as the maximum cup size with the finest grind, can push it into a code. Returning to factory values for a day shows whether the settings are the trigger. Writing down the values you changed gives the technician a baseline to compare against default behavior.
Where a technician looks first
The grinder, the pump, the heater and the brew chamber are tested using the specific program that fails. A part can pass a short test and still fail under the longer load. Only then is the board’s logic reviewed.
Steps you can take
- Reset the drink to its default size and strength using the manual’s instructions.
- Fill the tank with fresh water and empty the grounds container.
- Try the failing program once, then a gentler one.
Grind and bean choice
The strongest settings use the most beans, and a fresh bag of oily beans may feed differently from the old one. If the failing program coincides with a new bag, say so. A technician can then check whether the grinder or the feed is under strain on that program.
When it needs service
If E30 appears on a default program too, the machine has a fault that is not about settings. Opening the housing is a task for a technician. Afterward you receive a written estimate, and replacement parts are only ordered once you give the go-ahead.
Frequently asked questions
Each program places different demands on the grinder, pump and heater, so a weak part may fail on just the hardest one.
Trying default values for a day is a harmless test and may point to the trigger.
If they work normally, yes, but note any change and arrange a visit.
Which programs work, which fail, and the cup size and strength settings you normally use.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E30 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
