One code, several possible sensors
A coffee machine is full of small sensors: water level, temperature, position and presence checks. E06 tells you that one of those inputs reported something the control could not accept. It does not tell you which. That detail depends on the exact model and control generation, so do not assume a particular part from the number alone. Presence checks confirm that the tank, tray or brew unit is seated, while level and temperature sensors report on the water, so the same code can come from very different places.
After a wipe-down
A very common story starts with a weekend clean. The drip tray is rinsed, the front is wiped, the machine is switched back on, and E06 shows up. Moisture in a connector, a tray that is not fully pushed in, or a presence switch that did not click can all explain it. Let everything dry for an hour and reseat each removable piece before assuming something broke.
After moving the machine
Remodels and small-kitchen reshuffles are common in Bay Area apartments and older bungalows. A machine dragged across the counter can jar a plug or leave a removable part sitting slightly off. If E06 began the day after rearranging the counter, mention it.
What owners tend to see
- The machine refusing to start a cup right after switching on
- The code appearing only when a certain part is in place or removed
- Sudden clearing after reseating the tray or tank
What the technician examines first
Presence and position switches, the level sensor, the temperature probe and the wiring between them are measured one at a time. Each sensor gets a known input and the control’s response is compared with the model specification. Measuring each one in turn matters because a damp connector and a failed sensor can look the same from the display alone.
Checks that stay outside the machine
- Pull out the tank, drip tray and grounds container, dry the contact areas, and push each one back until it stops.
- Look for coffee grounds or dried milk lodged where a removable part meets the body.
- Make sure nothing, such as a mug or towel, is resting against the machine’s sides.
- Restart once and note whether the code returns at the same moment.
When it needs a visit
If E06 persists with everything dry and seated, a sensor or its wiring is likely at fault. A code that returns at the same moment every time points to a specific stage, which helps narrow the search. Tracing that requires opening the housing. The visit begins with diagnosis, a written estimate follows, and no part is replaced without your approval.
Frequently asked questions
The code alone does not say. The model and the stage at which it appears decide which sensor is tested first.
Yes, droplets on a connector or a switch can mimic a fault. Drying and reseating removable parts is a sensible first step.
A tray or tank that was replaced slightly off its seat can fail to register. Reseat each part firmly.
A picture of the screen and the rating label helps the technician choose the right specification before arriving.
Model compatibility: Bertazzoni reuses codes across series and model years, so E06 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
